Q&A: Vinegar Solution for cat urine SMELLS in carpets? Anyone actually tried this method?

Question by Nature: Vinegar Solution for cat urine SMELLS in carpets? Anyone actually tried this method?
Hi,

We have a problem with some cat urine smells in a throw carpet, & have been trying many times cleaning it with regular detergent/water solution but to no avail.

I’ve read about vinegar solution for cat urine smells, but has anyone here actually tried that & does it work? Or maybe some other method that I can try using cleaning products in my home?

I know about the enzyme products that many have been talking about. But would like to try home products first.

Thank you in advance.

Vinegar can work but it can also leave a vinegar odour in your home that’s almost as bad as the cat smell.

Try making a thick paste of baking soda and water and spread liberally over the affected areas. Leave for an hour and wash off. The baking soda should absorb the odour.
*warning* baking soda is a good cleaner so this may leave a super-clean spot on your carpet, you may want to consider cleaning the entire thing.

cat urine odor in carpet — I HAVE to erradicate it. How?

Question by BreadCollision: cat urine odor in carpet — I HAVE to erradicate it. How?
Please help — I no longer have a cat, but there is fresh cat urine in the carpet. I blotted up the urine as much as possible before I totally soaked (and I mean SOAKED) the area with a very expensive cat-urine odor eliminator (Nature’s Miracle). Luckily under the floor is a crawl space, so no biggie soaking the area. I waited a day and then I soaked the area with white vinegar (my mom’s suggestion). THAT smell just about killed all of us, so I soaked that up with towels, and now that the carpet is somewhat dry again, I can again smell the cat urine. HELP!

Q&A: How to get rid of cat urine odor?

Question by Wendy: How to get rid of cat urine odor?
There is cat urine in my carpet. I previously treated the area with a product made for urine odors. All this did was add another odor to the existing cat odor. Today I treated the area with vinegar and water and put a fan on the area to dry. The odor is still there, but slightly better. I pulled the carpet away from the padding and the stain is a lot bigger than I thought. New carpet is not an option. What can I do to get rid of this odor? The stain is in my 2 year olds bedroom.

Hi there…consider Nature’s Miracle “Just For Cats” (not plain Nature’s Miracle) found worldwide at most pet stores. It’s an enzymatic neutralizer which works by breaking down urine proteins by thoroughly soaking the areas affected and allowing to air dry. Repeated applications are necessary for heavily soiled areas.

Nature’s Miracle Just For Cats product info: http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441775019&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302025596&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023690&bmUID=1167132360710&itemNo=0&Ntt=nature%27s+miracle+just+for+cats&In=All&previousText=nature%27s+miracle+just+for+cats&N=2

We’ve tested nearly all enzyme neutralizers available in the marketplace for our exotic cats which have stronger urine than domestic cats and found that Nature’s Miracle Just for Cats has always worked the best.

He has to get a blood test to check how his kidneys are doing and the vet also has to extract urine from him with a needle – is this painful?

It isn’t painful, but not the most effective. They should let the kitty go in a box in his own time, less evasive, and gets a better sample. It can take longer to get, some kitty’s don’t like to potty in public.
