Q&A: Vinegar Solution for cat urine SMELLS in carpets? Anyone actually tried this method?
Question by Nature: Vinegar Solution for cat urine SMELLS in carpets? Anyone actually tried this method?
Hi,
We have a problem with some cat urine smells in a throw carpet, & have been trying many times cleaning it with regular detergent/water solution but to no avail.
I’ve read about vinegar solution for cat urine smells, but has anyone here actually tried that & does it work? Or maybe some other method that I can try using cleaning products in my home?
I know about the enzyme products that many have been talking about. But would like to try home products first.
Thank you in advance.

Vinegar can work but it can also leave a vinegar odour in your home that’s almost as bad as the cat smell.
Try making a thick paste of baking soda and water and spread liberally over the affected areas. Leave for an hour and wash off. The baking soda should absorb the odour.
*warning* baking soda is a good cleaner so this may leave a super-clean spot on your carpet, you may want to consider cleaning the entire thing.
